The bracket may be small. The compliance rules are not. We upgrade and relocate points of attachment across Sydney as Level 2 Accredited Service Providers. Defect notices, new extensions, and heavier consumer mains - we manage the assessment, physical work, and distributor paperwork from start to finish.
Verify our NSW Contractors Licence 493243C on the official NSW Trades register.
[ OVERVIEW ]
What is a point of attachment?
The point of attachment (POA) is the bracket, insulator, or fitting where the overhead service line from the electricity network connects to your building. It sits on your wall or fascia and takes the load of the aerial cable running from the network pole.
Over time, timber substrates rot, UV-exposed insulators crack, and older bracket designs no longer meet current clearance or cable-support requirements. When any of these fail, your distributor - Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy in Sydney - can issue a defect notice requiring rectification within 21 days.
POA work is not general electrical work. Under the NSW Electricity Supply Act 1995, it falls within the scope of a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider (ASP). We hold Level 2 ASP Licence 6855 and Contractors Licence 493243C. We assess the existing fitting, carry out the upgrade or relocation, and submit the required compliance documentation directly to your distributor.
[ SYMPTOM CHECKLIST ]
Common reasons property owners call us about their POA
Defect notice from Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy listing a non-compliant point of attachment
Bracket or insulator visibly cracked, rotted, or pulling away from the wall
Service line droop or sag that no longer meets clearance requirements
Planning an extension or facade change that requires relocating where the cable attaches
Upgrading consumer mains to heavier cable that requires a stronger or repositioned fitting
Scheduled property inspection flagged the POA as a safety concern
POA defects are some of the fastest rectifications we do. Many are completed in a single visit. If you have a defect notice, send it to us before you call anyone else - we will confirm the scope and quote you a fixed price.

What you need to know before booking
Point of attachment vs point of supply
The point of attachment (POA) is the physical fitting on your building where the aerial cable terminates. The point of supply (POS) is the broader zone covering the meter, service fuse, and supply connection. Both are network-side equipment that require a Level 2 ASP. In practice, a POA defect notice often means the bracket or insulator has failed, while a POS notice covers a wider scope that may include consumer mains or metering equipment.
Service and Installation Rules NSW
The Service and Installation Rules of NSW (SIR) set out the technical standards for service connections in the Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy network areas. They specify minimum clearances for aerial cables, approved attachment methods, and cable support requirements. Your ASP must ensure any upgraded POA complies with the current version of these rules. Non-compliant work results in a failed inspection and another defect notice.
CCEW after rectification
A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) is the document lodged with your distributor after qualifying electrical work is complete. For a POA upgrade, the CCEW formally closes the defect notice. Without it, the distributor still shows the defect as open on their records, even if the physical bracket has been replaced. We issue and lodge the CCEW on every job.
When an elevated work platform is needed
Some POA upgrades are accessible from a ladder or scaffold. Others - typically on two-storey properties with limited side access or where the cable connects high on a gable end - require a scissor lift or EWP (elevated work platform). We assess access requirements before quoting. If an EWP is needed, we include it in the fixed price so there are no surprises on the day.
“Sam is an absolute legend. He fixed my hot water system this afternoon. He didn’t charge me a lot and he done a great job”
“Couldn’t be happier with Electrosurge Solutions. I had a full house rewire done and a bunch of upgrades like downlights, pendant lighting, new powerpoints, ethernet/data cabling, and exterior sensor lights. Sam is very tidy and everything looks and works perfectly. Really easy to deal with and you can tell they take pride in doing things properly. Definitely recommend if you want a quality electrician.”
“Sam is professional, courteous and honest. He is upfront with the costs and does everything per the book. He was a pleasure to work with and gave us exactly what we wanted. Highly recommended. Wish every tradie was like Sam”

Frequently asked questions
01What is a point of attachment and why does it need upgrading?+
The point of attachment (POA) is the bracket or insulator on your building where the overhead service line from the electricity network connects. Timber substrates rot, UV-exposed insulators crack, and older bracket designs may no longer meet current clearance or load requirements under the NSW Service and Installation Rules. Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy inspect service lines periodically and can issue a defect notice requiring the POA to be upgraded within 21 days.
02Do I need a Level 2 electrician for a POA upgrade in NSW?+
Yes. The point of attachment is network-side infrastructure. Any work on it must be performed by a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider under the NSW ASP Scheme. A standard licensed electrician is not authorised to touch the service line, insulators, or bracket at the network side of the meter. We hold Level 2 ASP Licence 6855 and Contractors Licence 493243C, which authorises us to carry out POA work on both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy networks.
03How long does a POA upgrade take?+
Most straightforward POA upgrades are completed in a single visit of two to four hours. If the substrate (wall or fascia) needs structural reinforcement, or if an EWP is required for access, the job may run to a full day. Unlike new service connections, most POA upgrades do not require a lengthy network application or extended approval lead time - we coordinate directly with your distributor and work quickly to meet defect notice deadlines.
04What happens if I ignore a POA defect notice?+
Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy can disconnect your electricity supply once the 21-day deadline passes. For serious structural failures - a bracket that has pulled free of the wall, for example - they can disconnect earlier without waiting for the deadline. Reconnection after a disconnection takes longer and costs more than fixing the defect before the deadline. Contact us as soon as you receive the notice.
05Can a POA upgrade be done while the power stays on?+
In many cases, yes. Our Level 2 ASP can carry out service line work under a live-work authority. Whether a temporary disconnection is required depends on the scope of work, the cable type, and the specific Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy technical requirements for your site. We confirm the method before the job so you know what to expect.
06My extension builder says I need the POA moved. Who arranges that?+
We do. When an extension changes the roofline, facade, or clearance around the existing point of attachment, the POA must be relocated to maintain compliant cable clearances. We assess the new position, carry out the relocation, and update the network records. This avoids your builder running into a compliance issue at occupation certificate stage.
07Is the point of attachment on my property or the network's responsibility?+
The point of attachment fitting is on your property but it forms part of the service connection covered by the NSW ASP Scheme. In practice, the property owner pays for and arranges the rectification through a licensed Level 2 ASP. Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy own the service line up to the POA fitting; your side of the connection (consumer mains, switchboard) is your responsibility. Your Level 2 ASP handles the coordination with the distributor on your behalf.
